2013 FRED BROWN LAKE WINNIPESAUKEE RELAY
Saturday, September 7, 2013 at 8:00 AM
It's time once again to form our Colonial teams for the Lake Winnipesaukee Relay on Saturday, September 7th. This is a great day-long event, involving over 100 teams from running clubs all over New England.
If you have run on a long-distance relay team, you know how much fun it can be. If not--this is a chance to experience the encouragement from teammates and camaraderie that can't be matched in a conventional road race.
Here's the "skinny on Lake Winni":
The event begins at 8 AM at Weirs Beach, NH. There are eight runners per team. The course is 65 miles long, using paved country roads and highways that circle Lake Winnipesaukee. The distance of the eight "legs" is from 4 to 11 miles, all with some challenging (but doable) hills. (The legs, in order, are the following lengths: 10.7, 11.0, 9.3, 4.0, 10.8, 6.4, 8.5, and 4.4.) Teams will finish somewhere between 3 and 6 PM, so this is a day-long (but entirely daytime) event.
In recent years, we have had two CRR teams, but considering the growth of the club, we would like to have three, four, or more teams! If you are looking for a long, challenging leg to race as part of your fall marathon training, the Lake Winni Relay has plenty to offer. If you want something shorter but still challenging, we need you, too! The more members who participate, the easier it becomes to assign everyone to something that suits them.
If you want to be on a team, or want more information, contact Kate Walsh at lakewinni@colonialrunners.org. I will decide how many teams to organize based on how many runners sign up with me before July 20 (registration fee goes up after this date), so if you want to secure a spot on a team, please let me know before then.
Please fill out this registration form and return it to the address listed at the bottom of the form before July 20, 2013.
This is going to be a great race and I hope you all are as enthusiastic about this as I am. It will be a wonderful opportunity to represent our club at this event.
Thank you,
Kate Walsh
